Each
working day in our college [Govt. College of Teacher Education,
Thiruvananthapuram], commences with an assembly in the General Lecture
Hall. The students of the college take turns to
present a ‘thought’ and a couple of students/teachers would respond to the thought. Eduthoughts 1 , 2 and 3 were presented by
students of the 2011-12 batch

This
post (Eduthoughts- 4), is based on
notes prepared by the trainees of the English Optional (2012-13 batch) during the
‘Thought for the day’ presented this
academic year. The following is an
edited version of the thoughts compiled
by Ms. Aswathy and Ms. Prasaja.
On
Time Management
Time management is essential to succeed in life . It is needed even in the field of Education – while teaching and while writing answers during
examinations. Let children breathe
and feel the infinity of time .... let us not demand them to manage their time lest they become mechanical like adults sans all creativity...
On
Attitude
Even teachers require a positive attitude!
Khalil
Gibran on children
“Your children are not your children ...
They
are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself...”
From
Abraham Lincoln’s letter to his son’s teacher
“Teach him to sell his brawn and brain
To the highest bidders but
Never to put a price tag on his heart and
soul”
School
inspection story
A
group of officials was once assigned to
rate and grade schools. After observing
the poor infrastructure, facilities and qualification of teachers in a particular school in a rain prone rural district, as a matter of formality, the head
of the assessment team inquired whether the children had anything to ask. The conversation that followed was somewhat like this...
Official :
(Puffed up like a high official) Now...is there anything you would like to ask?
Child :
Sir... do you have sun in your place?
Official :
(With a contemptuous look) YES.
Child :
Sir... we have rain all day and we cannot go out and play...Can we borrow your
sun
for one
day?
Official :
(Stares in silence...leaves crestfallen)
On Values
If a teacher fails to value his own culture, parents or
country...can he or she instil values in children?
On
Backbenchers
Some
may prefer the backbench and may not be
good in studies, but may excel in other things... Class rotation system and regular group work to an extent is found to be useful to get backbenchers more involved in studies.
Give love
and take respect
No one is perfect...Mutual understanding and
acknowledging of each other’s positive
side is the first step ...
On
appreciation
Appreciation can work wonders... It was the appreciation
and encouragement received from his uncle that helped Raja Ravi Varma become an
illustrious painter...
On
Drug addiction
Some shocking studies have traced the source
of drug addiction to the parents of children. In some households alcohol
was found to be served like milk
and soft drinks!
On
terrorism
If we wish to see the world as a beautiful
place, we have to cut across boundaries and
see the whole world as ours...
