1.Within the kaleidoscopic patterns
of life in India-social, religious, political, economic-
many shades of opinion exist regarding the position of English. Explain how this
has affected the teaching of English.
2.Some believe that grammar is
the framework of language and that a
reasonable degree
of
accuracy is impossible to achieve unless
the student has a good grounding. Do you
agree? Answer with reference to the level of
competence in grammar seen in pupils at
the
Secondary level.
3. Communicative Language
Teaching Approach, cannot be called a
method as it
incorporates a variety of ways for
facilitating the acquisition of language as a means
of
communication. Illustrate.
4. The aim of Behaviourist
teaching is to form new, correct
linguistic habits through
intensive practice, eliminating interference
of errors in the process [Crystal 1987].
